Food Is Free Inc. is a community-led not-for-profit benefitting all Ballarat citizens, focusing on those experiencing disadvantage with the purpose of assisting food security education and community inclusion. Food Is Free Laneway (est. 2014) solves food waste issues whilst assisting those food insecure: visitors access free fresh food (fruit/veg/herbs), seeds and seedlings donated from citizens’ gardens plus Food Is Free Green Space (2018). Green Space is a purpose built 30 garden bed classroom for at risk/marginalised community members -via empowerment building workshops. A short walk from each other, both enjoy about 100 visitors daily and are cherished by our citizens. Our mission is: Building community resilience and environmental awareness by providing education about living sustainably, growing and sharing fresh nutritious food.
