Dr Thorsten Stanley trained at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and in Yorkhill and Royal Maternity hospitals, Glasgow with a special interest in immunology and has been in New Zealand since 1980.
Dr Stanley practises general paediatrics at Wellington Hospital and his clinics specialise in allergic disease. He also sees patients in private practice where he has recently become very much involved in the evaluation of ADHD.
He was Convenor of the DCH. Otago diploma from 1997 until his retirement from University of Otago in 2024. He established and has convened the annual regional paediatric update meetings for GPs since 2001. His research interests include probiotics, the microbiome and allergic disease. He assists the Medical Council from time to time with physician practice reviews.
