We are a group of Women of Colour who met at a Women of Colour gathering in 2017, an informal event of wonderful women that took place at the #ASRC. We believe in the power of gathering and connecting and creating spaces where the voices, stories, gifts and strengths of women of colour are at the center.
The annual one day events bring together 100s of women from diverse disciplines and backgrounds. A curated community you can leverage for sisterhood, connection, solidarity and (maybe like us) life long friends - all in one room.
This is a non-for-profit 100% volunteer run gathering and we want to ensure that every self-identified #womanofcolour feels like this is their space!
Our vision is to create a space for self identifying women of colour in Melbourne to gather together, share experiences, support each other and build leadership and participation, in the face of systemic issues and barriers.
We recognise that some women of colour face greater barriers than others and we seek to create access for them and reflect on our privilege.
We encourage the social and economic growth for our membership and our target group and simultaneously seek to contribute back to our communities where we can. We ally in actively protecting and furthering the equal rights, and access to those rights, for all women of colour in Victoria.
We define Women of Colour as a self idenitifed group of Women with unique cultural heritage and racial backgrounds that shares common experiences of systemic racism.
