Tom Avgenicos is a jazz and improvisation trumpeter and composer based in Cammeraygal land. His unique and individual approach to improvisation has made him a sought-after musician across a variety of creative projects in Australia. He is renowned for a deep, emotive quality to his playing, his ability to coax a bewildering variety of sounds out of the trumpet, and a bold melodic and rhythmic approach. His compositions are often fashioned from simple, recurring motifs creating ample space for in-the-moment musical conversation to form the centrepiece of performance. He is the leader or co-leader of Delay 45, Avgenicos Brothers and Tuckerbox, and has performed with Mike Nock, Ten Part Invention, Barney McAll, Matt McMahon and many more.
