A/Prof Carmel Crock OAM is the Director of the Emergency Department at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.  In January 2021 she received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in Australia Day Honours for service to emergency medicine, and to medical education. A/Prof Crock has a long history with the Eye and Ear, first working there as an Emergency Department Registrar in 2000 before accepting the role of Director in 2008.

In October 2020 Dr Crock received the prestigious Mark L. Graber Diagnostic Quality Award based on her research, advocacy and leadership in the field of diagnostic quality and safety internationally.

Carmel is a passionate advocate of diagnostic excellence, shared decision-making and the quality and safety of patient care. She continues to demonstrate exemplary leadership in this field both nationally and internationally.

She is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Fellow at Macquarie University and Chair of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Quality and Patient Safety Committee.

Her education and research interests include preventing diagnostic error, improving healthcare culture and communication, and exploring the relationship between physician wellbeing and patient safety.
