Workshop 2023— an exhibition created for the Tin Sheds Gallery space—came about as a layering of the ambitions of designers Caleb Niethe, Sarah Anstee, Kevin Hwang and Carmelo Nastasi. As curators they intended to re-establish the gallery into its historical role as a space for sketching and experimentation.
In their latest project a series of lamps are crafted from the reused materials of a disassembled artwork. Leant against each lamp is a book, and in that book the story of the lamp’s materials are recounted. You lift the book and the lamp turns on.
Light Reading is an exhibition of these two intertwined objects, and their tangle of utility and narrative. It is a space of lights and books, for time spent with the processes of reading. A kind of communal lamp, in whose light a new story might be discovered or old favorites discussed.
