Angourie Dance is a youth-focused contemporary dance program based in the Clarence Valley on Yaegl Country, co-founded by acclaimed dance artists Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal and Janessa Dufty. Drawing on their extensive international careers, they offer high-quality, inclusive, and accessible dance experiences that empower young people across the Northern Rivers region.
Responding to the challenges of regional isolation, limited arts access, and the lasting impacts of fires, floods, and the pandemic, Angourie Dance creates a safe space for creativity, collaboration, and self-expression. The program goes beyond technique, centring on youth voices through exploration, experimentation, and shared decision-making—helping participants build resilience, confidence, and connection.
Janessa Dufty, a Filipino-Australian dancer and educator from Yamba, brings her experience from Sydney Dance Company and Black Grace, offering a generous, collaborative teaching approach.
Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal is a Javanese-Australian choreographer and certified BMC® educator, renowned for her award-winning productions and leadership in regional arts, First Nations collaboration, and youth dance.
Together, they are nurturing a culturally rich and inclusive generation of local dancers. Angourie Dance prioritises access for First Nations, CALD, and underrepresented youth—redefining arts engagement and creating lasting impact in the Clarence Valley.
