Purpose – Arasan foundation Trust
The purposes of the trust are to preserve and promote the rich heritage of the south asian population, whose cultural background are built on the three pillars: Literature, Music and Drama in New Zealand. The trust would also foster understanding, friendship, goodwill and appreciation between south Asian communities and various cross-sections of the people of New Zealand.
Objectives – Arasan foundation Trust
To help migrants settle well in New Zealand without discrimination and to empower as citizens of New Zealand so that they may become valuable citizens and service and add value to the society.
To remain strictly non-political and non-partisan in the promotion of south asian language and culture.
To provide social support and networking opportunities for new migrants and New Zealanders who are South asian-speaking people or identify themselves as people of south asian culture.
To encourage people who are interested in learning, promoting, and celebrating the South asian language and South asian Culture, irrespective of their language and/or cultural identity.
Pecuniary gain is not a purpose of the trust
General activities to achieve the above objectives
a) Do anything necessary or helpful to the above purposes.
b) Cultural enhancement via all forms of media and community connections such as print media, radio and television
c) Information evenings, social, workshop and training activities
d) Debates and discussions (internal and inter-communal)
e) Community Service
f) Interacting with other cultural groups.
g) Contributing to other mainstream multi-ethnic activities that promote South asian
h) Hosting local and international guest artists and other professionals
i) Application for funds and other support that is available to any Community group in New Zealand
j) Sharing the resource that the group has with other communities
k) Making formal submissions as required to legislation and policies that impact on the growth of the South asian language and wellbeing Of Our members
Arasan New Zealand is a National South asian Ethnic Organisation promoting South asian Language, Culture, Heritage and community wellbeing via various Media, Projects, Events and Advocacy. Currently we operate in 5 cities (Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago & Southland) and surrounding regions and hope to expand to other smaller cities. As another primary aim Arasan seeks to Forster relations and understanding and collaborations with diverse multicultural organisations with Tangata whenua and the wider community. We wish to establish, deepen and broaden links between south Asian organisation and communities throughout new zealand. Increasing linkages between the diverse south Asian communities and providing with wider public and opportunity to experience the culture and interact provides for a healthy happy nation. New Zealanders should be afforded opportunities to come together- ethnic minorities and majority- to
a) meet each other and enjoy each other’s company,
b) learn about, enjoy and experience each other’s foods,
c) learn about, enjoy and experience each other’s music,
d) learn about opportunities to meet and help each other in times of need,
e) celebrate our country as New Zealanders.
