At The Ark Inc. is a Gold Coast-based registered charity dedicated to preventing abuse, protecting the vulnerable and helping restore the lives of children, individuals and families impacted by child sexual abuse, domestic and family violence, and trauma.
Founded in 2010 by Simon and Xena Schembri, At The Ark was born from lived experience and a determination to ensure that people facing abuse and trauma do not have to walk the journey alone.
Our work is centred around three simple words: Prevent • Protect • Restore.
We provide trauma-informed counselling, practical and emergency assistance through our Safe Hands Program, court and family support, and trauma recovery programs designed to help people move beyond survival toward healing and hope.
Prevention and education are also at the heart of our work. Through initiatives including the Brave Little Bear children's safety resources, workshops, community education and awareness programs, we equip children, parents, schools and communities with knowledge and practical tools to help recognise, prevent and respond to abuse.
Our LIFT – Live In Freedom & Thrive program provides a trauma-informed, faith-informed pathway for survivors of abuse and trauma, while our ongoing partnerships enable us to support and participate in additional trauma recovery initiatives across Australia and beyond.
