Founded on the principle of upholding Australia’s Crown and constitutional framework, which has long ensured we have an Australian as head of state, ACM ran the successful NO campaign in the 1999 Republic Referendum against a well-funded campaign supported by the media and the political class. The NO case prevailed nationally and in all six states with 72% of electorates voting to retain the existing Constitution.
Following our pivotal role at the 1998 Constitutional Convention and our historic campaign to restore the Governor to Sydney’s Government House, marked by one of the largest, peaceful demonstrations in Macquarie St, ACM’s National Conference remains the premier and longest-running annual gathering dedicated to preserving Australia’s constitutional integrity.
