Authentic Design Alliance
The Authentic Design Alliance (ADA) exists because furniture design theft is normalised in Australia, and the damage is real.
It hits Australian-based designers and maker-studios, international designers and brands trading here, and the local businesses that distribute, specify, manufacture, retail, and support authentic products.
About the ADA
The ADA is a purpose-driven industry association dedicated to combating furniture design theft in Australia.
We advocate for authenticity, originality, innovation and sustainable practices. We support the creators, brands, makers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers and specifiers who value design integrity.
Mission
What we do and who we support
The ADA protects original design by combating counterfeit furniture and supporting the people and businesses who create, make, specify, and sell authentic products.
Our mission is to create a sustainable future for the design industry operating in Australia by strengthening intellectual property protection and lifting design integrity across the market.
We raise awareness among industry professionals and consumers to encourage purchasing and specification decisions that favour durable, sustainable furniture products instead of replicas and counterfeit designs.
“Australia is now the ‘Wild West’ of fake designer furniture. The future of Australian design relies on the choices we make today.”
Vision
The future we’re working toward
We imagine a future where Australia leads the world in protecting design integrity and outlawing fakes.
Our vision is that:
Counterfeit designs are illegal and aligned with global trading partners, including the EU.
Consumers understand copy culture, including its cultural, economic, ethical, and environmental impacts, as well as the financial and emotional toll that design theft places on creators and brands.
Consumer and industry behaviour is shifting toward investing in original, well-designed productsbuilt to last.
Authentic products and materials are valued to support retention, repair, and reuse, and to interrupt the cycle of replacement.
Design integrity is upheld, so customers choose authentic, sustainable furniture products over disposable alternatives.
Australians are moving away from “disposable decorating” and adopting a mindset centred on long-term quality and investment.
Impact statement
Why it matters — the change we create
What we make, buy, and value shapes our world.
The ADA is transforming Australia’s design culture by raising awareness about the importance of protecting original ideas and empowering ethical creators and businesses.
We advocate for laws that protect authentic design and drive behavioural change that makes original design the preferred choice.
