Aw Yeah? is the brainchild of Sydney-based beatboxers Rex and Gale—two champions of the Australian scene with over a decade of combined experience. Merging intricate rhythm, improvisation, and total vocal control, they perform explosive live dance music using nothing but their mouths—no loops, no effects, no backing tracks.
Both artists have a strong pedigree: Gale is the 2022 Australian Beatbox Champion, 2017 Beast of the East Champion, and has competed internationally at top-tier battles overseas. Rex, the 2018 Culture Knockout Champion, brings deep musicality and fast-paced flow. Before forming Aw Yeah?, the two were members of the performance crew Tribe Beatbox, playing at major events including Rabbits Eat Lettuce and various underground festivals across Australia.
Their shows mix original material, crowd-fuelled improvisation, and genre-defying shifts through drum & bass, funk house, techno and abstract experimental soundscapes. Whether it’s an intimate club, a sun-drenched outdoor festival, or a last-minute freestyle on the street, Aw Yeah? crafts each set live with precision and playfulness.
