BCD Theatre is an independent Sydney theatre company founded by Kersherka (Kersh) Sivakumaran - artist, director, producer, and Bharatanatyam practitioner with over two decades of classical Indian dance experience and roots in Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Since 2019, BCD Theatre has produced five works across Sydney, Melbourne and London - fusing Bharatanatyam, live music, poetry and storytelling to bring to the stage stories that are rarely seen in Australian theatre.
Our productions have played at KXT on Broadway, Barangaroo, Burwood, Bankstown, the Sacred Music Festival, Sydney Fringe Festival, and most recently fortyfivedownstairs in Melbourne. Our work has been supported by Lendlease, Burwood Council, Lane Cove Council, Macquarie University Film School and the SAARI Collective.
In 2025, our flagship production And What Will People Say? - an immersive work confronting domestic violence in South Asian families - won two Sydney Fringe Festival Awards: Best Emerging Producer and Best in Category (Spoken Word). The production is currently touring to fortyfivedownstairs Melbourne in July 2026.
Critics have described our work as having "a genuine capacity to influence change" and praised our storytelling as "superbly written, replete with detail that makes us see the moment and feel the pain."
