After three years of overthinking, countless discussions, and probably too many complaints about how an Arabic-speaking stand-up comedian doesn't have a space where they fit in entirely, Bel Arabi Comedy Club was born.
Bel Arabi is, a (hopefully) monthly Arabic stand-up comedy night, bringing together first timers, aspiring, and established comedians in Melbourne with backgrounds from across the Arab world, with all the accents, dialects, and senses of humour that come with it.
Built on the simple idea of “If you build it, they will come”, Bel Arabi is for anyone who has ever, even secretly, turned off Dua Lipa on the drive home after a long day and blasted Nancy Ajram at full volume instead.
And who knows what the future holds? Maybe, in a little reverse-colonialism plot twist, the future really will be Arabic.
