Bread and Roses Caucus is a caucus that exists inside the NSW Socialists. We are made up of mostly Indy's, and we seek to create a mass party based upon the following parameters.
We are a multi-tendency caucus for unaligned and minority tendency socialists who are committed to building a broad left party. Our members are entitled to a conscience vote if agreement cannot be reached.
We believe that the party should actively engage its members through political education, a party publication and regular branch meetings. We challenge the view that some kinds of political organising are more valuable than others and we seek to broaden the party’s conception of what constitutes ‘valuable political action’.
We believe that the party should foster a culture of internal democracy and maximise the avenues for member participation.
We believe that the party should be engaged in unionising workers and organising communities; socialism will not be won through the ballot box alone.
We believe that the party should fight racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism and other prejudices in a non-sectarian manner.
We believe the party should raise the political consciousness of its members and the public. This is not done by erecting barriers to participation, but by democratising the tools of organisation and empowering members to deploy them in a variety of ways.
