The Breaking Barriers: Women in Trades and Technology is an initiative of the AMWU and funded through the Commonwealth "Building Women's Careers" grant. It is designed to inspire, support and empower young women to explore rewarding careers in trades, manufacturing, engineering, technology and other traditionally male-dominated industries.
Through engaging workshops, industry connections, hands-on activities and role model presentations, the program helps students learn about the wide range of career pathways available to them. Participants gain valuable insights from women working in trades and technical fields, hear real-life career stories, and develop the confidence to challenge stereotypes and pursue opportunities that align with their interests and strengths.
The project works closely with companies across the Nation, schools, industry partners and community organisations to help create pathways that encourage greater participation of women in skilled trades and technology careers by increasing awareness, building confidence and fostering connections.
The Breaking Barriers Project aims to create a more inclusive and diverse future workforce where all young people can thrive, regardless of gender.
