Bronwyn Cochrane, a proud Gamilaraay woman from the heart of North West New South Wales. With over two decades of experience as an Aboriginal primary school teacher and Aboriginal educational consultant. Bronwyn started her career in the Early Learning sector as an educator with “Goonimoo” a playgroup model specific to the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families and children (0 to 5years) living in rural and remote communities. Bronwyn is also the founder and executive Director of TIPIAC, an acronym that stands for Teaching Indigenous Perspectives In the Australian Curriculum.
In 2020, Bronwyn became a mentor for early years learning services through the "Deadly Teacher Solid Jarjums" program, a remarkable initiative by the NSW government and Department of Education NSW. This program aimed to empower the sector in providing culturally inclusive early childhood education environments, amplifying the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Beyond her work with early education, Bronwyn ventured into the higher education sphere, guiding honour students in their 4th year of Global Challenges science degrees at Monash University in Melbourne. She collaborated with the Catholic diocese to weave Indigenous culture and history seamlessly into curriculum programs, fostering a deeper understanding of First Nations perspectives.
Bronwyn has been a passionate advocate for the inclusion of First Nations perspectives in classrooms and has shared this knowledge, skills and tools with educators all over Australia. She is committed to bridging the educational gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous children. She's on a mission to empower educators across Australia, ensuring they feel confident and safe when integrating authentically rich and diverse First Nations perspectives into their schools and early learning centers.
At the heart of her mission is the belief that education is a powerful tool for change, one that can bring communities together and foster understanding. Through TIPIAC's support network, Bronwyn aims to equip teachers with both the resources and the confidence to teach First Nations perspectives across all Key Learning Areas.
