The California Wetland Monitoring Workgroup (CWMW) is a workgroup of the California Water Quality Monitoring Council. The Council was established by State Senate Bill 1070 and requires the boards, departments and offices within the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and the California Natural Resources Agency to integrate and coordinate their water quality and related ecosystem monitoring, assessment, and reporting.
The CWMW formed to coordinate among federal, state, local and tribal agencies and non-governmental science support organizations involved in tool development and implementation. The CWMW advises on the development, implementation and routine use of standardized wetland and riparian monitoring and assessment tools.
The Level 2 Committee of the CWMW is the statewide oversight group for wetland rapid assessment. The L2 Committee is needed to provide technical expertise, guidance, peer review, and development for Level 2 assessment methods and any associated application of those methods or data generated through those methods. The mission for L2 is to review technical and policy aspects of wetland and riparian area rapid assessment development, implementation, and data application to improve wetland management in California as a part of the California Wetland Monitoring Workgroup (CWMW).
Staff at the San Francisco Estuary Institute administer the CRAM Training Program for the CWMW.
