The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust (CELT) permanently conserves and stewards cherished lands – from shorelands to marshes, from farmlands to woodlands – for ecological benefit and for the enjoyment and education of all people.
Since its founding in 1985, CELT has permanently protected nearly 900 acres on 36 properties for the public benefit. We work to increase and maintain trail access for casual, non-motorized use by all, and to manage invasive plants on our properties. Since 2002 we have partnered with schools to offer educational programs for children and adults in Cape Elizabeth and surrounding communities, to promote and enhance a harmonious relationship between people and the natural environment and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
In 2015, CELT achieved accreditation by the national Land Trust Alliance, re-accreditation in 2020, and have just applied for our renewal for 2025-2030. In 2025, we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary with a series of guided walks, library discussions and special events that will engage the community in celebrating the conserved lands that give Cape Elizabeth its uniquely rural character just miles from the largest city in Maine.
We are supported by nearly 600 members as well as corporate and community partners and welcome tax-deductible donations through our website.
