I’m Chef Rumi, founder of YoJoKun, a culinary venture inspired by the 18th-century Japanese health guide Yōjōkun, which teaches balance, mindfulness, and nourishment for body and spirit.
With studies in Dietary Management and Nutrition, experienced as a professional cook, and my career as a Registered Nurse. I see food as both medicine and joy. As a Certified Yoga Instructor, I bring mindfulness and balance into the way I teach cooking and living.
I look to share the flavors of Japanese traditional family-style cooking, featuring comforting dishes such as Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pizza), Omelet-rice, and noodles which are difficult to find here in Des Moines. My classes and events are designed to make these meals approachable and meaningful, while connecting them to health and the wisdom of Yōjōkun.
My mission is to preserve the warmth of Japanese home cooking while helping people discover harmony in food, health, and everyday life.
