‘Dangerous When Wet’ is a new Australian vaudeville-styled comedic musical by award-winning composer Joanna Weinberg, writer/producer/performer Eliane Morel, writer/researcher/designer Merran Hughes and musical director/arranger/pianist Daryl Wallis. It's about swimmers Fanny Durack and Mina's Wylie's struggles to compete in the 100m freestyle at the Stockholm Olympics in 1912, where they won Gold and Silver.It's a joyful, uplifting, inspiring story with tunes you'll be humming for days afterwards.
Having received an overwhelmingly positive audience response for our creative development stage, we have committed to producing a fully staged two-week season of 'Dangerous' at Randwick Town Hall from 8 to 18 October 2026.
In an era where women’s sport is on the rise, yet still attacked and belittled by mainstream commentators, we think it's vital to celebrate these stories. Our aim with this musical, a celebration of female friendship and triumph over adversity, is to make these characters once again household names in Australia.
It almost goes without saying that it costs money to produce musicals. Our biggest cost is ensuring that all our artists are paid properly, so we are working towards sponsorship, grants and other donations to ensure the whole project comes to fruition.
