The anthropological understanding of dirt as a ‘pollutant’ within a society or culture is the basis of our philosophical attitude towards dirt.
Dirt is not just a mess, but an anomaly or threat to a structured environment.
Dirt is divisive. What you find dirty I may not. Who or what is accused of being dirt can be personal, cultural, or institutional.
Dirt can be wearing shoes inside, or the act of gay sex. Dirt is nudity, and feminine empowerment.
Dirt is community. Dirt is unceded, colonised land.
Dirt is a disruptor, yet also a binding agent that highlights the unjust socio-cultural hierarchies that contain us. With no structure, there is no dirt.
We seek to embrace the dirt, embrace humanness, embrace the taboo, and challenge the norms, binaries, and Western colonial structures that our society is built upon.
Come on in, get dirty with us!
