Don Weluk Bio

Don Weluk is a Jinang (Djinang) man, skin name Gammarang,  member of the Marrangu Clan near Maningrida NT.  He grew up visiting family and country in traditional nomadic style around the whole of Arnhem Land where he learned to communicate in 15 languages.

Don received his education in Madayin (Lore) including ceremonial body painting with Jinang Elders particularly David Malangi  - who’s original bark painting features on the the Aussie one dollar note.

Malangi said to young Gammarang at 9 years old — “you gotta go learn Balanda (white man) law, different initiation”. He sent young Don to school in Darwin, Katherine and Barunga.  Don would go home to participate in traditional cultural education on school holidays. This makes Don a precious “two way fella”

As an artist his previous exhibitions all over Australia showcase his style and linage from Arnhem Land NT, particularly his master work ‘End of Dreamtime’.

"We gotta help..
