Matty’s teaching and research interests include how the ‘social other’ is socially constructed by the dominant cultural practices of communities and settings, power structures and how they inform hierarchy, forms of participation and social change, qualitative methodologies, the social construction of human rights issues, and the experiences and identities of academics within higher education.

Teaching and Research Academic, 0.6 FTE Teaching (Psychology Discipline) and 0.2 FTE (Research). Matty is a Lecturer within the Discipline of Psychology in the School of Population Health at Curtin University in Western Australia. Matty is particularly interested in qualitative methodologies, gender, power, knowledge, and community psychology. Matty supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students, is a Curtin ALLY, is the Academic Equity Support Coordinator for the School of Population Health, and is a member of the Curtin Gender Research Network (GRN), and Curtin enAble Institute.
