Erica Schaffel is a self-taught watercolor artist. Just 5 years ago, she never even dreamed of sharing her artwork with anyone other than her family. Today, Erica is a full time artist whose work has been featured in galleries across the United States, including the Jackson Junge Gallery in Chicago, and Asheville’s own Foundation Studios and Marquee.
Erica studied oil painting and acrylics for years before an undiagnosed autoimmune disease left her bedridden for 6 months. Looking for something easier to manage in bed, she turned to watercolors, and never looked back. She completely fell in love with the fluid, spontaneous nature of watercolors, and how it serves as a reminder to surrender and go with the flow. The only thing Erica loves more than painting is helping others find joy in watercolors!
