Fiji Girmit Foundation of NZ was formed in December 2012 in Auckland. Its initial aims and objectives included reconnecting, reclaiming, and restoring the foundational history of Fiji Indians. The making of this groundbreaking factual and emotional documentary is supported by it, as it meets its basic objectives. The producer of the documentary Rajendra Prasad is a founding trustee of the Foundation. This documentary
is largely based on his book, Tears in Paradise - Suffering and Struggles of Indians in Fiji 1879-2004. We urge the descendants of the Girmitiyas to see this documentary film to know, understand and truly appreciate that we built our lives on the robust foundation built by our Girmitiya ancestors.
