It's FreakDown! We are committed to creating environments for people of all ages to PLAY. We believe that committing to immersive forms of play in safe, supportive ways, is the best way to connect with community, heal trauma, and return to the world a brighter and lighter version of oneself.
At the Freakdown we have the opportunity to create a supportive, creative, and fun learning experience for all participants. Along with increasing our creative potential, we want to create a safer, more inclusive space for everyone to step into more powerful places for deepening relationships and playing together. As a community, we recognize power structures and oppression exist as a result of present and historical marginalization and colonization of people based on socially constructed differences (ie: race, ethnicity, culture, sex, gender, ability, religion, class, age, sexual orientation, etc). We are committed to creating an environment where we can explore the effects of oppression, our involvement, and our own biases to ultimately learn from each other and prevent further oppression so that we can go back out into the world as forces of positive change.
We recognize that a commitment to anti-oppression is life-long work and requires a life-long commitment. Here are some things we can do this weekend to support each other in this work:
- Value all voices; know when to step up or step back
- Hold each other capable and able
- Ask, don’t assume
- Speak from “I” perspective; from own experiences
