Friends of Matilda Bay is a community group of Perth locals dedicated to preserving the natural beauty, family-friendly atmosphere, and community spirit of one of our city’s most cherished riverfront locations. We are passionate about protecting the traditions of family and community connection that thrive along the shores of the Swan River.
We advocate for responsible access, environmental conservation, and the thoughtful use of Matilda Bay—ensuring it remains a peaceful, welcoming space for swimming, paddling, picnics, and quiet enjoyment. We are especially committed to:
Preserving the uninterrupted views to the river and city skyline,
Maintaining the quiet, relaxed character of the bay; and
Appreciating its unique, sheltered position, naturally shielded from the afternoon sea breeze, making it a safe and enjoyable space for children and families
We strongly believe that the construction of a 140-metre ferry terminal in the bay would irreversibly damage these qualities -blocking views, increasing noise and traffic, and disrupting the calm, protected environment that makes Matilda Bay so special.
We stand for keeping Matilda Bay a place where nature, community, and city life coexist in harmony—for today’s families and future generations to enjoy.
