Gael Hillyard is an artist, writer and dark sky advocate based in the Scottish Highlands. Her work explores observation, perception and the ways in which we make sense of the world around us.
Alongside her creative practice and advocacy, she develops workshops and courses that encourage curiosity, closer observation and independent thinking.
Her work with artificial intelligence includes the development of structured frameworks for human and AI collaboration, alongside a feasibility study supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). This work examines the reliability and robustness of AI systems, with particular attention to human judgement, intellectual independence and authorship.
Gael has exhibited widely, undertaken artist residencies in Scotland and overseas, and is a Fellow of both the Royal Astronomical Society and the Royal Society of Arts.
