In 2012, faced with rising family violence in the East Arnhem community of Galiwin'ku, local women established the Galiwin'ku Women’s Space (GWS) to create a safer, stronger community free from domestic violence. Rooted in Yolŋu culture and values, GWS acknowledges the importance of both Yolŋu and Balanda law, providing a supportive space for women, children, families, and men. Offering crisis and preventative services, the center stands as a milestone achievement, reflecting the community's leadership and determination from its inception to its delivery..
