Gallery Flaneur was originally utilised as a retail display cabinet by the tenants of the building located at 2 Gawler Place. The building is currently empty and future plans for the site could involve demolition and redevelopment. In the interim we have repurposed the cabinet as a mini art gallery. The gallery showcases local Adelaide artists. The location of the gallery has inspired its name, aim and audience. The gallery is dedicated to the flaneur, a French word coined in 1863. It describes a person who wanders the city with the only purpose of taking in its sights and its sounds. Our aim is to create a gallery that people discover by chance. It is dedicated to the urban explorers and wanderers of our city and gives an experience of surprise and delight.
