Hi I’m Grace …
I have always known stories are my life. From a small child huddling under the blankets with my book torch, to an adult living and working in Thailand telling the stories of young people rescued from the illegal sex trade, stories have inhabited most of my waking moments.
During my career, I have worked with refugees from war-affected communities, victims of sex trafficking, and families in extreme poverty in Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. I have written stories from bars, brothels, slums, and hilltribe villages throughout South Asia.
From crafting hundreds of stories, I have come to know this: everyone has a story and every story is important.
I recently completed my debut memoir, Darling Humans: Fallen Angels of the Cross, which will be published in October 2024 by Healing House Publishing. It has easily been the most wonderful thing I have ever done. Bringing my authentic self to the page also required more courage than I knew I had. I worried: What would people think? Would I lose my job? Fears littered my path and threatened to trip me up and shut me up.
Ultimately, I had to make a stand for my story, and become a foot soldier for my truth. And so, I set my face to wind and made a decision to bring the best and worst of me to the light.
Shame keeps us in the dark. It makes us hide out. Coming into the light brings freedom, healing, and in Jeff Brown’s words, ‘self sovereignty’.
Grace has helped people around the globe tell their stories including victims of sex trafficking and refugees from war-affected counties. She knows that making a stand for our stories brings freedom, healing and self-sovereignty.
