Heath Bunting (born 1966) is a British artist and activist based in Bristol, best known as a pioneer of 1990s net.art and co-founder of irational.org. In recent years his practice has turned toward land-based self-sufficiency: he works as artist-in-residence for the Avon Gorge and Hampstead Heath while running regular public wild-food foraging walks.
He describes himself as a wild-food forager, organic fruit-and-vegetable grower, and “accelerated growth hollow tree consultant.” The walks he leads treat urban and peri-urban green spaces as living classrooms. Typical 90-minute sessions take place at the Avon Gorge and Clifton Downs (Bristol), Brandon Hill Park (Bristol), Hampstead Heath (London), Sea Mills / Avon Gorge, and occasionally coastal sites such as Woolacombe in North Devon. Participants identify and harvest edible plants, trees and fungi (plus shellfish on coastal walks) while also covering bushcraft, medicinal and poisonous species, wild soaps, sustainable picking and cultivation methods, indigenous habitats, food processing and preservation, climate-change adaptation, rewilding, and seed collection.
Events are small-group, all-weather, family-friendly (children usually free), dog-friendly and priced accessibly. They are framed as both practical skill-sharing and a continuation of Bunting’s long-standing interest in open systems, borders, and living outside official infrastructures.
