Established in 2006, The Hellenic Studies Foundation was born with a mission to preserve and promote Hellenic language and culture as a part of Australia’s multicultural landscape. Founded by passionate members of the Greek-Australian community, the Foundation recognised the importance of safeguarding the Greek language and its rich cultural legacy for future generations. Its founding priority was to ensure the confirmed teaching of Modern Greek at a tertiary level.
In 2023, the South Australian Government provided the Foundation with a $2m grant to help broaden the scope of its endeavours. Its priorities extended to ensuring that the teaching of Modern Greek was promoted and supported in primary, high ad tertiary levels. Since receiving this money, the Foundation has supported a wide range of educational and cultural initiatives, partnering with schools, universities, and community groups to ensure that Greek language learning remains accessible, engaging, and relevant.
