How Do We Play? is an NYC-based event series and growing community of artists, performers, scholars, schoolchildren, scientists, and thinkers dedicated to exploring the art of play
Since 2022, we've curated immersive, multi-sensory experiences featuring 60+ international artists across play structures, painting, sculpture, performance, live music, and interactive installations.
We believe five things.
Play is power. Play is free. Play is freedom.
The event is the medium. In a digital world, in-person experiences of all sorts matter more than ever.
Facilitation matters. We crave structure. Thoughtful facilitation, whether through guided discussion, rules in games, and prompts, such guidance helps us move from awkwardness to connection.
Curation & Collaboration is key. The art of friends introducing friends is slowly dying, and we believe this is key to creative collaboration. The role of the human curator is to help facilitate creative collaborations between people.
Design for all types of people. Not everyone connects and plays the same way. Our events offer multiple “stations,” whether movement, art, conversation or rest so everyone can participate how they like.
