Since 1965 we have produced and disseminated high quality research on
the economy and society of Indonesia. Across the region our research is
recognized for its ongoing role in informing Indonesian economic and
social policy development. Our key areas of research include trade and

Based in Indonesia and Australia, our work also makes a critical
contribution to building the next generation of Indonesianists. Through
our graduate education and capacity building activities we have trained
some of Indonesia’s leading policy makers including Ministers and senior
policy advisers. Our alumni include former Minister of Trade, Dr Mari
Pangestu and former Minister of Finance, Dr M Chatib Basri.
Over five decades we have built one of the largest networks of
Indonesianists in the world and developed strong people-to-people links
between Australia and Indonesia. Our networks include academics, policy
experts and decision makers from both Australia and Indonesia. We
leverage our networks and share our knowledge and policy expertise to
build capacity and increase awareness in the region.
