Jamia Weir was the Larchmont Charter School elementary art teacher for 15 years in Los Angeles California, where she left her mark through the different art experiences and projects she engaged the children with, as well as the entire school community through her role of "Community Groups Coordinator," facilitating many school wide art projects, creative ceremonies and spirited performances and happenings, brainstorming and collaborating with many colleagues along the way. She recently moved back to her home state of Connecticut to teach art at Cold Spring School in New Haven and to be closer to family. In her art teaching practice, Jamia often utilizes recyclable materials and "Upcycling," multiple art forms: music, movement, theater, Play Based and Eco Art Education activities all through the lens of her unique sense of humor. She is also a practicing multidisciplinary artist and had her first solo show called Shape Shifting just before she left LA at Studio 203, featuring her improvised quilts and textiles.
