Kalakruthi - School of Indian Classical Music was founded in 1994 by Smt Shobha Sekhar, OAM and is now reputedly the only carnatic music school in Australia to be accredited by the prestigious Music Academy, Chennai. Aspiring students of all backgorunds are trained in Carnatic Vocal and Veena imparting the highest quality of music to the next generation of Australia.
Smt. Shobha Sekhar, the artistic director of Kalakruthi is an internationally acclaimed artiste and has dedicated tutelage and training under some of Carnatic music’s greatest exponents - Sangitha Kalanidhi Smt DK Pattammal, Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri DK Jayaraman, Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri RK Srikantan, Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri KS Narayanaswamy, and Sangitha Kala Acharya Sri Bombay S Ramachandran. This reflects in her refined musical style and technical excellence with its adherence to the traditional precepts of this venerable art form.
