KVET began in 2000 as a group of people in Kangaroo Valley concerned about the violence and conflicts in Timor Leste in 1999/2000, which developed into a lasting friendship between the village of Remexio and Kangaroo Valley. The organisation was started with the intention of supporting the people of Timor Leste to rebuild their country and gain self-determination.
They support education and community through fundraising events to enable students to access accommodation in Dili so they can get tertiary education, provide scholarships, and run infrastructure, environmental and health programs. Over 25 years, they've achieved remarkable results including building 2 student houses in Dili, providing scholarships for secondary and tertiary students, and installing over 1,500 homes with solar lighting systems - transforming lives through sustainable, community-driven development.
