Kennan grew up in the forests of Western Washington where he spent his feral youth exploring animate ecosystem around him and falling in love with trees and creatures of all kinds. His passion for Fungi fruited in late childhood and guided him to study botany and mycology at Whitman College as an undergraduate and then at Humboldt State University where he acquired a master's degree in biology. He has studied wild Fungi in Costa Rica, Madagascar, Guyana, and Cameroon, and has introduced 7 species of tropical Amanita to the scientific community. As a university instructor, professional forager/wildcrafter, experienced cultivator, and nature-based artist Kennan's spirit has been truly colonized by the Fungal kingdom and serves in all ways as an ambassador between the beloved network and their human friends.
