What we are about
In 2017 three friends having a great conversation and enjoying some wine decided it was time for Latinos in Tasmania to have a formal structure for making things happen for their community. That year, along with other like-minded friends they formed the Latin American Cultural Association of Tasmania and incorporated the association under the Tasmanian Associations Act of 1964. See our constitution here.
We call the organisation LACAT for short.
LACAT is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the ACNC with the objective to:
To preserve and showcase Latin American culture in Tasmania, through events, dance, music, art, food, and language exchange.
(Please note: We do not aim to represent the Latin community in Tasmania)
How we work
LACAT is run by its voluntary Board members and has no paid staff. Our volunteers apply for grants, run fundraisers or donate their time and money to support our programs.
