Project Background:
In 2024 Merrangbaur Pony Club had been vacant for ten years. Local member for Gippsland Darren Chester approached Beth Ripper, President Lakes Entrance Community Landcare about local environment groups using this site to support their programs and events.
It’s an opportunity opportunity to offer local Citizen Arts & Citizen Science creatives support mentoring in Citizen Arts Science ecological on-country activities in allyship with Gunaikurnai Ecological Knowledge and Culture.
Lakes Entrance Eco Hub will be a focus for the local economy: cultural tourism, festivals, markets, school incursions, school community garden support, local organisation workshops…
-An opportunity to bring together Landcare Groups, GLaWAC and FLOAT in Connecting to Country with partners e.g. Parks Victoria, East Gippsland Shire Arts & Culture, Forest Fire Management, Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, Lakes Explorer, Venture Out, East Gippsland Verge Gardens
-Develop local regional satellite Eco Hubs Connecting to country through art/science activities at Slipway and other local Eco Hubs e.g. Oneonta Education Centre Bream Rd Lake Tyers Beach, Nungurner Bushland Reserve with Nungurner Landcare
