Louise Lever is a filmmaker who prioritises the female gaze and LGBTQIA+ stories in her work. Her short film “Joey’s Heart” was selected to have its World Premiere at the prestigious BFI Flare Film Festival, where it screened at Southbank theatre in front of a crowd of 400. The film has been selected to screen at Roze FilmDagen, Amsterdam’s largest LGBTQ film festival, and has been shown in festivals internationally. The film stars well-loved NZ actors Angela Bloomfield and Jess Sayer and was shot by DP Bayley Broome-Peake.
While living in Melbourne (Naarm), she made her debut feature documentary film “Revolt She Said” – a portrait of contemporary perspectives on the feminist movement. The film features interviews with trailblazing women such as Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark and award-winning journalist Alison Mau. The film was a nominated for Best Documentary Film in the New York City Independent Film Festival, and has screened on Rialto Channel and TVNZ On Demand.
Louise is currently in development with a Feature Narrative, and lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
