Marcela Michelle is a transdisciplinary artist, educator, facilitator, and producer living and working on Mni Sota Makoce. Trained in a wide range of disciplines, and engaging with genre as a theatrical element instead of a defining descriptor, her work often engages metamodernism, staged pointillism, and questions concerning euphemism, authoritarianism, cultural analysis, simultaneity, and im/mutability. Her work as a choreographer, actor, writer, and chef have all been presented by Walker Art Center, and she has received commissions from Red Eye Theatre, where she is currently in residence as an OMNIVERS artist, Queertopia, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. She has a rich history in the queer Minneapolis arts community ranging from performing in nightlife events and cabarets, to her work as Artistic Director of both 20% Theatre Company and Lightning Rod. Recent residencies include WAC, Tofte Lake Center, Rosy Simas Dance three thirty one studio, Pancake House, and as a Hennepin Theatre Trust Teaching Artist. She is a Q-Stage fellow, a mentee of the National Institute for Directing and Ensemble Creation, a recipient of the City of Minneapolis Creative Response Fund, and a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow.
