Matahui School is a primary school in the Western Bay of Plenty, just south of Katikati. We cater for students in Years 1 – 8.  At our school we embrace each child’s unique qualities and strengths, celebrate neurodiversity, and aim to build positive self-esteem in our children and a love of learning.

Our core philosophy is that all children are different — so it makes sense they also learn in different ways. We believe that ALL students can achieve success if they are active engineers in their learning.

We do this by offering smaller class sizes, more one-to-one time with the teacher, an extensive outdoor education programme, which includes a Forest School, hands-on learning, and a nurturing, values-driven environment.

Our education framework is founded on the belief that children learn best when they are:

  • Active participants in their education.
  • Immersed in nature and developing a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
  • Supported by a strong, connected community
  • Encouraged to think critically and creatively, applying their knowledge in a real-world context.

We are a member of the Independent Schools of New Zealand and a registered charity.
