The School of Translational Medicine (STM) is a recognised hub of clinical and biomedical research excellence, offering undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs, as well as professional development short courses. We are part of the newly formed Sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health, alongside the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
The school is based in the Alfred Research Alliance (ARA) precinct, and other partners, including Peninsula Health and Cabrini Health.
STM is at the forefront of translational medical research – expediting research discoveries into clinical applications - from discovery , to drug and device development - as well as offering an Australian-first translational training program for graduate students.
STM spans the translational spectrum from laboratory to clinical work, focusing on discoveries that contribute to patient care. Our laboratory-based research includes mechanisms of disease, discovery, medical devices, biomarkers and imaging; while our clinical portfolio includes clinical trials, registries and outcomes research. Our national and international collaborations and partnerships link us with world leaders in biomedical and clinical research.
We are home to Australia’s first dedicated university departments of diabetes and neuroscience.
Our multidisciplinary research attracts world-class researchers, teachers and students to our well equipped laboratories and teaching facilities. The school partners with industry to develop treatments, devices and other technologies, and cures for a wide variety of diseases and conditions. With Alfred Health, we lead more than 200 clinical trials, as a member of Australia’s largest centralised clinical trials site.
