Monica is an enthusiastic, experienced musician, clinician, composer, arts administrator and independent music teacher of piano, brass, handbells and recorder. She also is a sound catalyst and enjoys giving sound meditation and relaxation sessions using song and sound, incorporating voice and a wide variety of instruments. She works solo as well as with other sound people such as Charles Snelleksz-Mathelot, Julian Silburn and more. She also plays live music for yoga classes.

She has participated in many concerts and events in Australia, USA, New Zealand, Canada, England, Italy, and Singapore. Locally she has performed in concerts at the Perth Concert Hall, the Riverside Theatre, the Crown Theatre, the Regal Theatre, the Ellington Jazz Club, the FLOW Festival, Sistahood Rising Festivals, Supreme Court Gardens Carols By Candlelight and Fremantle Candlelight Carols as well as many other state and community events.

Celestial Sounds

Monica has been teaching piano lessons for four decades, always upgrading and learning about new curriculum and ways to teach so that she can choose the best materials for each student's learning style. She currently is using the Piano Adventures and Supersonics Piano methods adding in other works as needed. She uses several iPad apps to add educational fun to her lessons. Monica is an examiner for the St. Cecilia Exam system. Features of her studio are a student recital at the Ellington Jazz Club in June, St. Cecilia Exams in September and the End of Year Concert in December.

Monica was the Western Australian Representative of the Handbell Society of Australasia for 20 years hosting two Australasian Handbell Festivals in that time. An international clinician, and conductor, she is the founder and Music Director of BellsWest, directing it’s three hand bell/hand chime groups. She is the Handbell Director for Broadening classes at the University of Western Australia.

In addition to her piano teaching and handbell work, she has been a recorder instructor for many local and national camps/conferences, and is a past president of the Recorder and Early Music Society of WA.

Monica studied recorder with Eva Legene and recorder pedagogy with Marie Louise Smith at the Early Music Institute, Indiana University.
