Moorabbin Area Toy Library (MATL) is a not-for-profit volunteer-run organisation which was established in 1986 to provide a toy borrowing service to our member community.
Our purpose is to support families with the tools for play, providing our members with access to a wide range of toys which their children may not otherwise have access to, and to encourage children's education and learning through play.
Our library aims to create a supportive community which builds our members’ awareness of the benefits of play-based learning, encourages family interaction and learning through play, and forges strong connections between children, family and community.
We curate and coordinate an extensive catalogue of toys, games, costumes and puzzles for children aged 6 months to 10 years (and their families), and actively engage with our member community to highlight new additions to our collection. Parents, grandparents, and family daycare providers are encouraged to join as members of the library, and are invited to enjoy the benefits of membership such as:
- gaining access to a huge range of toys that match the developmental level and interests of their child;
- feeling supported in selecting toys that align with their child’s learning needs and abilities;
- saving money on buying toys outright;
- avoiding the storage issues of bulky toys;
- helping the environment by extending the useful life / play-time of each toy;
- being able to trial toys before deciding to buy them; and
- enjoying meeting other families from their local community.
