Since 1919, the Maricopa County Branch of the NAACP has been fulfilling the promise of equal rights for all people by fighting for and addressing civil rights issues in Maricopa County and throughout Arizona.

The history of the NAACP is one of blood, sweat, and tears with bold investigations of mob brutality, organizing non-violent protests against mass murders, segregation and discrimination. It is the skill, talent, commitment and tenacity of NAACP members that have saved lives and changed many negative aspects of American society. For more than a century the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has worked to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. Inspired by the force and commitment of The Call of 1909, which denounced the growing oppression of people of color and mobilized thousands to work to bring this discrimination to an end.

Over the years, the Maricopa County Branch of NAACP has made great strides to increase its membership and to advance our mission to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination throughout Arizona.
