FOOD IS LOVE IN ACTION
Since our very first pop-up dinner in February 2017, New Arrival Supper Club has offered hundreds of guests the opportunity to bond with and learn from their resettling neighbors over the universal language of food.
A welcoming country begins with welcoming neighbors. It’s important for people to be of service, especially when they are going through challenging times and a lot of needs of their own. The experience of migrating as a refugee can be disheartening and even traumatic. Individuals and families can lose their sense of individuality, feel limited by societal stigmas and discrimination towards immigrants, lost, isolated and lonely. New Arrival Supper Club directly counteracts these hardships, by creating space and opportunity for resettling refugees in Los Angeles to participate and invest in the wellbeing of their new neighbors and creating a bridge Los Angeles community to meet people who have experienced resettlement as refugees. Though we may not share a spoken language, we have a shared human experience. We all seek out connections, we all rely on our neighbors, and a delicious meal not only nurtures the body, but the soul as well.
